In the context of 'Actions to Promote Employment for the Unemployed with the Contribution of NGOs' of the operational programme 'Employment and Vocational Training' financed by the European Social Fund under the Third Community Support Framework, the Hellenic Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics (EL.IN.A.AS) organised a one-day scientific conference 'Flights and Air Pollution: an Issue of Environmental Protection' that took place on Wednesday November 12, 2008, at the amphitheatre 'Leonidas Zerbas' of the National Hellenic Research Foundation in Athens.

This project promotes the idea of environmental protection in conjunction with technological progress. Aviation culture, an inseparable part of technological culture, is now the subject of environmental criticism. The aim of this project is to advance an ecological and technological aware society, as well as to reveal new cultural models.
