The 'Pilot Project for the Promotion of Aviation Culture' at the Municipality of Portaria was approved within the context of 'Actions to Promote Employment for the Unemployed with the Contribution of NGOs' of the operational programme 'Employment and Vocational Training' financed by the European Social Fund under the Third Community Support Framework. This project aims to promote activities that will inform and raise awareness mainly among laypeople, regarding aviation culture.

In this context, the Hellenic Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics (EL.IN.A.AS) organise a one-day conference in Portaria on October 31, 2008. The main objectives of the conference are to dynamically promote activities, to inform and raise awareness among laypeople about aviation culture, to familiarise young people with aviation culture and to encourage responsible decision-making in Research & Development.
